Did you know that software jobs outnumber students 3-to-1? Anyone can learn the basics, starting in elementary school, but fewer than 10% of students (and just 4% of female students, 3% of students of color) take computer science classes.
An Hour of Code, coming up December 9-15 during Computer Science Education Week, is getting some good promotion. Locally I hear it was featured in the 11/21/13 Robert J Elkington Middle School announcements and Ann Treacy featured it today on the Blandin on Broadband Blog.
I can vouch for the benefits of learning code – and that just a little knowledge about computer science goes a long way! An Hour of Code is for EVERYBODY and ANYBODY, with special focus on students K-12. Please help spread the word, and encourage the students in your world to grab a group of friends and get going!
