What is possible if we unleash the creativity of our 9th graders to solve the issues that concern them?  Last week, the Grand Rapids High School Civics students began diving into that question.

With the support of their social studies teachers, the Grand Rapids High
School’s 9th graders are rolling up their sleeves and digging into the results of the Youth Voice Survey data in Civics classes this week.

To kick off the project, twelve community members joined a panel to talk to Spark Panel-03the teens about ways panelists are working to create a positive change in the community.  These adults will serve as a resource to the 9th graders as the young people analyze the survey data and develop projects addressing their concerns.  You can read more about the panel here.

The project is in its second year and was developed by Social Studies teachers in the region with the support of SPARK and the Search Institute.
