Lights on Afterschool as a national celebration

Lights on Afterschool is a national celebration of afterschool programs for our children, families, and communities. The events help to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things and discover new skills. This event also calls attention to the importance of afterschool programs and the resources required to keep the lights on and the doors open. Itasca Networks for Youth and Itasca Area Community Education are proud to be Lights on Afterschool partners.

The event’s across Itasca County are a part of more than an 8,000 expected around the nation that day, the annual Lights on Afterschool, organized by the Afterschool Alliance.  Itasca Networks for Youth, Itasca Area Community Education, and many other afterschool providers will join in celebrating afterschool opportunities so that every child who needs a program has access to one. Benefits of afterschool programs, include inspiring children to learn, keeping them safe in the sometimes perilous afternoon hours, and relieving working families of worries about their children’s activities in the afternoon.

Lights On Afterschool is a project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization working to ensure that all children and youth have access to quality afterschool programs. More information is available at www.afterschoolalliance.org.
