The Movement IS making a difference for teens in Deer River. How could they not with the support of the school, Heather Schjenken, Gerald White and Chad Evans!

Updated Mar 20, 2014 at 10:26 PM CDTDeer River, MN (NNCNOW.com) — In Deer River just west of Grand Rapids, there’s a coalition of young and old people working to keep high school kids away from substance abuse.These students are part of a group called The Movement at Deer River High School.
It’s a drug and alcohol prevention program.
Deer River native Heather Schjenken advises the student group along with their adult mentors.
“I had adults make a difference in my life so it’s part of giving back,” she said. “It’s one of the reasons I moved back here because this school really made an impact on my life and I want to do the same thing.”
Schjenken says that unity among younger and older people in Deer River is what drew her back to her hometown after college.
