The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota is partnering with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Leech Lake Area by providing funding to plan and develop a girls leadership council to increase the readiness of girls to achieve future economic well-being. Activities within the program will include the Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s SMART Programs, peer mentoring, community service and in-depth economic focus from the girlsBEST (girls Building Economic Success Together) Fund. The Girls Leadership Council will help create a plan to help other girls living in our community to achieve the goals outlined by the grant and by the girls.
The clubs are looking for girls between the ages of 14-18 living on or near the Reservation to be part of the program, for women willing to volunteer time as mentors for the Girl’s Council, and other adults willing to talk with the leadership council about economic success. Once the plan is complete it will be used to find additional resources to implement the plan the council develops.
The planning grant begins January 1, 2013 with a strategic plan to be completed by April 30, 2013.
